Welcome to Mr. Wall’s 5th Grade Class! Dear Fifth-grade Students & Families, It is my pleasure to welcome you to your new fifth grade classroom! This school year will bring many exciting adventures and new challenges. I hope that you come to school this year expecting it to be the best you could ever imagine. I am thrilled to meet all of you and learn about who it is you are. As your child’s teacher, I need to know about his or her loves, interests, and fears. Communication is a vital part of the learning process. Our English Studies day begins at 12:00 p.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. On Friday, our day will begin at 10:30 a.m. and go until 1:00 p.m. Attendance is extremely important and your child is expected to be in school everyday. If your child is enrolled in the After School Program, the program begins at 4:30 p.m. and goes until 6:00 p.m. from Monday through Thursday. After School begins on Monday, September 16th. Homework Policy: Students will have a homework folder that they will bring home every night and return to me everyday. Although homework will be done in class – you must always revisit and discuss all class work and homework with your child when they come home. Any unfinished class work or homework will be sent home to complete in their folder along with at-home projects and nightly reading - so it is important to always check your child’s folder. A signature is required on the homework sheet in order for your child to receive full credit. Homework will be assigned everyday. Please note: I do not believe in “busy work”. All homework that is assigned is beneficial for your child’s scholastic achievement. Behavior Policy: I utilize an incentive system where children start with a clean slate at the beginning of the day. Each day they have a chance to earn a prize tickets, which means that they are going above and beyond as a student. For each ticket they receive, they get a chance to redeem for prizes at the end of each week. The more tickets they earn, the more chances they get to receive rewards. A child can earn tickets for exceptional behavior, work, and insights. If a child is off task or disruptive during the day, he or she will be given 3 warnings before receiving a detention slip. Best regards, Mr. Wall, 5th Grade Social Studies and E.L.A. Please Feel free to email me at [email protected] or through the Classtag website below.
